Map of our visit to Lamego -
now a Christian pilgrimage town. The Jewish
quarter was centred around Rua Nova to the west
of the Castelo. At one time Lamego controlled
the river traffic on the Duoro, in which a vast
number of boatmen transported goods via a river
with many natural obstacles that were enumerated
by Baron Forester in the early 19th century. |

The Castelo has been turned
into a modest museum. The superintendent Roza
Coelha was astounded that someone with Lamego
New Christian ancestors should have appeared.
She unsuccessfully tried find for us a volume 'Judiaria
im Lamego' by a local scholar Dr Assumpcao. |
