Map of our visit to Lamego - now a Christian pilgrimage town. The Jewish quarter was centred around Rua Nova to the west of the Castelo. At one time Lamego controlled the river traffic on the Duoro, in which a vast number of boatmen transported goods via a river with many natural obstacles that were enumerated by Baron Forester in the early 19th century.   The Castelo has been turned into a modest museum. The superintendent Roza Coelha was astounded that someone with Lamego New Christian ancestors should have appeared. She unsuccessfully tried find for us a volume 'Judiaria im Lamego' by a local scholar Dr Assumpcao.   Door to the Judiaria on Rua das Cortes opposite the Church of Santa Maria de Almacave.
