Descendants of Pedro De Lousada

Notes

93. Rachel Baruh Lousada

Death (in Jamaica) from ref 88 of www.barrow-lousada.org #160. She was probably born before Abigail as Rachel was the name of her paternal grandmother.

In her brother Jacob's will she is shown as Rachel Rodrigues Lopes and as a widow. Therefore she outlived her Rodrigues Lopes and logic would suggest that she was not married to Isaac Lamego who was alive and in London at her and Jacob's death in 1754 and 1752 respectively.

It is necessary therefore necessary to query those sources (including the Banjamin Barrow Lousada family tree which is on www.barrow-lousada.org for historic interest only), which suggest that Isaac Lamego married Rachel.

She should not be confused with Rachel Rodrigues Lopes #1201, sister of Aaron Lousada #1174, both offspring from Abigail Lamego the elder and Jacob Lousada #380. This other Rachel died before 1747, as can be seen from the will of Aaron Lamego #128.

We suggest Rachel #129 married the Abm Rodriques Lopez on http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~jamwgw/el.htm who died around 1741-2;

apart from the husband #1202 (who died 1788) of Rachel #1201 her cousin the only other Abraham Rodrigues on record was the Abraham Rodrigues on http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~jamwgw/mr.htm#R who died around 1733-4 but this person does not appear to have the Lopes surname and perhaps died too early to have married this Rachel who was born around 1710

Abraham Rodrigues Lopes

we suggest he was the Abm Rodriques Lopez on http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~jamwgw/el.htm who died around 1741-2 and who we attribute as the husband of Rachel #129;

apart from the husband of Rachel #1201 her cousin the only other Abraham Rodrigues on record was the Abraham Rodrigues on http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~jamwgw/mr.htm#R who died around 1733-4 but this person does not appear to have the Lopes surname and perhaps died too early to have married this Rachel who was born around 1710

SURNAME: Also shown as Lopez

162. Esther Lopez

the daughter's name is the same as her mother - and probably reflects the name of the paternal grandmother

94. Abigail Baruh Lousada

Hannah Abigail wife of Moses Almeida died 20 Jan 1745 aged 33 buried at Hunts Bay (from ref 88 www.barrow-lousada.org)

from Alan Pereira 11 Jan 2017
Known to be deceased when brother Jacob wrote his Will 23 Feb 1748.  She is also identified in the same Will as having married an Almeyda and also as having 3 unmarried daughters called Ester, Rachael and Abigail.  In the same Will, he identifies that those daughters, his granddaughters are living with him.  This suggests that Abigail's husband Moses Almeida is also deceased or working away from home.

DEATH: We know that a Joseph and Rebecca Aguilar were alive in 1754 in Spanish Town courtesy of a census transcript from that year - Anne Powers, "Spanish Town Census 1754," A Parcel Of Ribbons, accessed November 17, 2014, . Are they the same ones? I think so but can't be 100%. If it is, it narrows Joseph's death down slightly more.

Marriage Notes for Rebecca Baruh Lousada and Joseph Aguilar

MARRIAGE: In Lousada-Barrow web site the Jewish marriage date is claimed to be 16 Sivan 5523 which equates to 21 June 1769 (Roman) or 28 May 1763 (Gregorian)
In brother Jacob Baruh Lousada's Will written 23 Feb 1748 he referes to his sister as Rebecca Aguilar wife of Joseph.  This shows that they were married before this date as does the birth date of their eldest child Emanuel 1746.

They had the following children.
Emanuel Aguilar-1278 was born in 1746. He died in 1785.
Isaac Aguilar-168 was born in 1748. He died in 1825.[Notes]
Grace Aguilar-657 was born in 1749. She died in 1795.[Notes]
Grace married David Lopes Torres-188, son of Jacob Lopes Torres-174 and Sarah Lamego-171.
Abraham Aguilar-191 died in 1794.

170. Emanuel Baruh Lousada

This Emanuel built Peak House. His obituary is in Gentleman's Magazine 29 Feb 1832. To him was granted a coat of arms on 28 Jan 1777 (see 'grant of arms' document on www.barrow-lousada.org) and to descendants of both the brothers Jacob and Aaron Baruh Lousada.

Note that Emanuel Baruh Lousada of Jamaica #41 had two grandsons called Emanuel, one #87 the son of Jacob and one #135 the son of Aaron. Note also that Isaac the first reinstated Duke had a son Emanuel who became the 2nd Duke.

The Jewish Encyclopedia provides the name of Moses for this Lousada. This is an error.

ref 85 p20 has a will extract showing all property to his nephew and executor Emanuel

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/features/3636203/Sidmouth-is-so-worth-saving.html describes (in an article by Candida Lycett-Green on a bequest by Keith Owen of Ottawa to conserve Sidmouth) his role in developing Sidmouth as follows

'Just as Keith Owen was inspired in wanting to retain and enhance this atmosphere, so also was Emmanuel Lousada, who founded the resort. The Jewish businessman recognised the physical beauty and potential of what was then a small port nestling on the mouth of the River Sid.
He bought up as much land as he could in the late 1700s and set about developing a genteel, yet exotic holiday venue. He built the first cottage orné - a large house dressed up as a cottage and often thatched with pretty bargeboards, which appealed to the holidaying aristocracy of the day.
Lousada was a brilliant publicist and attracted an ever- widening circle of grandees to build their own holiday houses a little above and away from the sea. They now form the best collection of cottages ornés in the country.
When the Duke and Duchess of Kent, with their baby daughter Victoria, the future Queen, took Woolbrook Cottage for their holiday, it sealed Sidmouth's status in social and architectural terms.
But for me this was not Sidmouth's heyday - that time is now. The grandees may have forsaken it for the south of France 150 years ago, but they have bequeathed us their architectural legacy. My father immortalised Sidmouth in his poetry. Keith Owen's legacy is just as important - to preserve it in real life.'

In https://www.hoaresbank.co.uk/sites/default/files/styles/FINAL%20MOM%20March%2014.pdf is discussed the damage caused by the storm of 1824 and some fundraising led by Emanuel Baruh Lousada

http://www.sidvaleassociation.org.uk/index.php?page=history describes him as follows 'In 1796 Emmanuel Lousada built Peak House, and in 1820 he also built Clifton Cottage for use as a beach house. From 1810 onwards, properties were being built as ‘country residences’ or cottage orné. The Duke of Buckingham built his in what is today Sidholme, and provided it with an elaborately decorated Music Room. Lord Le Dispenseur built his residence at the Knowle (now extended and used by the EDDC). The Beach House on the sea front became probably the first lodging house for visitors, and others followed, together with Assembly Rooms. Being further from London, Sidmouth did not expand so much as the other Regency resort of Brighton.'

BIRTH: Born before 23 Feb 1748 as he is mentioned in his father's will written at that date.

Referenced in his Father Jacobs Will written 23 Feb 1748 and Probated 23 Nov 1752.  Identified in Will as being under 21.
