John Bury advised that John Bacon's sister Mary Ann married Edward Thornton; and her aunt Elizabeth Bacon married Edward Thornton snr. The Thorntons were cousins of the Wilberforces. These families were part of the Clapham Sect, a group which campaigned for abolition of slavery, founded Sierra Leone etc. See 'The Clapham Sect' by Stephen Tomkins.
