Father's Occupation: Shoemaker
George Alfred Parlour son of William and Lydia (nee Pereira) Parlour and nephew of James above was my great grandfather[The Parlour Family History Andy & Sue Parlour 2008], we now know a little about George's early life, he was born 17«sup»th«/sup» February 1854 at 1, Regent Court/Place Limehouse. His father William is trading as a shoemaker. The infant George was registered by his mother, Lydia Isabella on the 20«sup»th«/sup» March 1854. Lydia unable to write signed with her mark-a cross. 1, Regent Court/Place was where his parents were living in 1851 with Georges's older brothers and sisters. In 1871 aged 16 he was a shoemaker and living with his parents and sisters and brothers at 9, Thomas Road, Mile End Old Town (see 1871 census above). In 1875 aged just 19 George Alfred Parlour was living in Stepney with Ellen Eliza Noad who is a tailoress. George like his father William is still a cordwainer, a leather worker and shoemaker. In 1875 Ellen gives birth to Esther followed in 1878 by Alfred Robert, sadly little Alfred dies before his first birthday. Lydia Ann is born in June 1880. George and Ellen were not married then and had two daughters. On 13«sup»th«/sup» September 1881 they do eventually marry, at St James the Great Church in Bethnal Green. George's father William Parlour is present but Ann's father William Noad is deceased.

see Genealogy\\pereira\\Census1901\\ParlourGeorge18810913NoadEleanorP1&2.jpgNot long after George and Ellen are on the move again with their family, they move to 2, Park Road, Bow-Common. In 1905 daughter Lydia Jane now 24-years-old marries at Mile End. They are still at this address in 1907 when George is listed in the local trade directory as a coal merchant. In 1911 the family had moved again, not far, just a few doors along to no 8, Park Road, Bow-Common. George was still a coal merchant and no doubt had his son Benjamin William working with him.
«b»George Alfred Parlour continues his trade as a coal merchant, while to bring extra money into the house, wife Ellen turns to her old trade of tailors presser and works from home taking in work from some of the many tailors in the area, who are mainly Jewish. By this time George Parlour is renting a small yard situated at the end of Candy Street, Old Ford, Poplar. Part of the yard was under an arch of the East London railway line. Here George trades as a coal and firewood merchant, he possibly inherited the yard from his wife Ellen's father and brother-in-law William & Benjamin Noad, who were both coal merchants.«/b»1911 Census: Class: RG14; Piece: 1645.
