Notes

50. Edward Pereira

Benjamin Pereira is shown on the parents and guardians list for the two brothers Henry and Edward Pereira at the Hyde Abbey School, Winchester.
His address was 8 Carburton Street, Fitzroy Square, London.
The address on the parents and guardians list for 1825 was 53 Great Marylebone Street, London.
At the end of the Mid Summer Term of 1826, his address was 1 Thayer Street, Manchester Square, London.
As Parent or Next of Kin, Benjamin Pereira also signed the Nomination Papers of the Honorable Court of Directors of the Limited East India Company, for Cadet Henry Pereira, 182 Season, 1826 - 1827 Madras or Bombay Establishment.
NOTE - It is possible that Great Marylebone Street is an error and should read Great Marlborough Street.

AP Note:  Although uncle Benjamin was a known debtor by this time, he was eldest male of Isaac and held title to lands / inheritance that Manasseh Lopez Pereira couldn't lay claim to.  Also, Manasseh was in India at this time.

For 1881 census, see marriage notes.

59. Charles Brenton Basden

Alive and mentioned in Dame Charlotte Lopes (Charlotte Yeates)'s Will, which was written in 1831.  Although not mentioned by name, the Will refers to 2 children now living.  One died in 1820.

Note: This death seems to bear out the first conjecture of events shown in Charles's second marriage notes.  However, as Minnie was born in India and it looks like Charle's second marriage took place in Australia, the probability is that Maria died in India or Australia, not back in England.  This would make the above death suspect.

The above seems to indicate Charles remarries to Elizabeth, an Australian.  Daughter Isabilla is probably from that marriage, so about 1867 or earlier, whereas the older children, born in India are more than likely from the first marriage to Maria Swinhoe.  This indicates Maria must have died soon after the birth of Minnie F (1862), making the second marriage between 1862 and 1867, probably in India or Australia. [Conjecture]

Another possibility is that Elizabeth M = Elizabeth Maria and is actually Maria Swinhoe an Australian by birth.
Need to check the marriage detail of Charles to Maria to determine which of the above is the more likely conjecture - not proven.

NOTE David Baynham wrote "I have lost the reference now but there was some kind of charitable orphanage at Simla for daughters of British military.  Apparently, the young ladies were in high demand and could take their pick from the non-commissioned (or in this case commissioned) officers.  There is a reference to some such institution in Isaac's will - I am conjecturing that  Susan ended up there."
Isaac Pereira, Lt.Col. of Bengal Artillery's Will of 3 May 1846 "and the monies arising therefrom shall be in trust for all and every my three children Louisa Susan, Charles Lopes and Edward Sturrock who being my said daughter Louisa Susan shall survive me and not have been married in my lifetime and being my said son Charles Lopes shall survive me and at the time of my decease so they have a claim on the Bengal Military Orphan Society".  He died 9 August 1847 Calcutta and was buried in Dum Dum Cemetery with no mention of "deceased" above.
NOTE Peter T.Pereira advises that K.S or K.b are N.I. for Native Infantry.
